A Week of Play

We celebrated Memorial Day with a hike to the Y. This was not my idea. I wanted to hike, yes, but a nice, calm hike to the waterfalls. NOT a mile STRAIGHT up the friggin mountain with a toddler and 2 month old. But I wanted to get out in the pretty weather so bad, I agreed and said a hike is a hike. WRONG. About half way up, I told Mr Smith I couldn't do it. I didn't care what he thought of me, this was NOT my idea of fun in nature. Especially when right around that time Dallin started crying and squirming. I would have been done touching my hot body too. So Eric basically takes Dallin the rest of the way up in the front with Lexi on his back. She did a couple switchbacks, but Mr Smith held us all together. It was his idea any way. I definitely didn't trust my jello legs coming down, but hey, we're alive. First family hike was a ... success, sure. Never again with young tots, or ever again. The outdoors waterpark opened up too and since it was our las...

I recommend Chatbooks

I did the Instagram Series. But the Chatbook Series is coming soon and looks perfect for grandma or non-Instagram pictures. It's an app that automatically takes photos and puts them in a cute little book for $6, free shipping. If you want an extra copy of that book, just pay $3 for shipping. They printed out great. I've started a collection of 4 books to begin (that's probably removing half of what I've posted to Instagram which is scary). You can remove pictures you don't want included and they ship for free for each new book purchase. 6X6 book; 60 photos each book, you can choose which picture goes on the cover, each page has a picture and you can choose to edit or remove the date, location & captions. The outside spine lists the dates from the first picture to the last. Just splendid! But these are great to keep on a shelf while the kids are young and some as coffee table items when the kids can't ruin them (or if you make one specific for the ki...

Shopping for Tall

Shopping can easily become an annoyance. So here is what I have found works for people like me (Tall really isn't that rare!) Old Navy - bless them, seriously bless them . They sell TALL pants AND tops and they really mean it. They have largely improved over the years with fit although they still run larger and sometimes their tops are too thin BUT you can't beat the fit for the price. I LOVE their Diva fit jeans. Now I just need them to come up with a good pair of kaki pants that look good front & back. Express - for quality work pants. They have a ton of options although it seem their Editor line is preferred (thicker pant). I just ordered a couple 50% off hoping one will fit. JCPenny - Although I feel like online is your best chance at actually finding Tall, I hear it does exist and they have the coupons that come in the mail. So out of department stores, JCPennys wins. And that's about it folks. There are several places that sell "long...

There is a big difference between 14 months and 1 year so I tell you she is 14 months.

I found a molar in Lexi's mouth a few days ago. So, obviously we are on it as parents. The only way to get a glimpse is to hold her upside down and tickle her. So she wasn't making up all those teething symptoms a few weeks back.  It seems a bottom molar & front tooth broke through as well.  But again, hard to tell in 5 seconds. Yay for 14 months! that makes 8 teeth and counting. Here are some things I didn't think about when it came to Alexis becoming more mobile, but I still can't do much about except remember to shut the door (assuming you don't have old doors like ours that don't fully shut) 1. The toilet bowl brush along with the freaking toilet paper. The day she walked out of the bathroom waving the toilet brush…. ughhhhh 2. Checking the trash cans to make sure non trash is not thrown away 3. Spending hours looking for the TV remote. 4. Just because it's on the table, doesn't mean it's out of reach, i.e...

Baby Stuff

Soooo I thought I did a baby list of things I loved as a first time mom. But apparently I didn't. I know I emailed a few people but never blogged about it. I know I did a " things I've learned " blog at 7 weeks and I will probably add more "hindsight" points as well. I guess I will skip some of the obvious things like having two kinds of pacifiers. Not caring the crap about nipple confusion. Give them that pacifier or bottle whenever you think it will help! I'm so beyond having every person tell you how you're going to screw up your child for doing this or that. Just love them and don't drop them or shake them even when it's tempting.  #1 multiple pacifier clips . cute ones, because they will wear it with every outfit. #2 I didn't use my Medula pump as much as others have due to the fact that I didn't go back to work BUT I really liked using it during the engorgement phase. that phase you think will never end and you can ...

The Nursery Mostly

So here is the new glider & my mini project for the week.  Love the glider! The common Storkcraft one but grey&white. Ordered from Wayfair. Firm bottom cushion but a fluffy back, side pockets & a little lumbar pillow that I use to rest the babe on while nursing. Like all things, I wish it was longer for my legs, but then there is the footrest. It's a great purchase & cheaper than all those babiesrus ones. See the picture wall that I hung? Well, Mr Smith helped a little. Sorry for all the glare. You should come see it in person. And again I don't like the blue walls but it's the current situation. that coral color always show up pink in pictures. next time take it down a notch! oh is it nap time? I think I need one more blanket first.   As you now know, cooking every day for someone who is pretty plain but can consume a lot & me who likes variety, stresses me out. So this little board has helped pretend like I have some order to it all...

Photo Discount

Just in case anyone needed to make some prints like I did, snapfish.com has some great promo codes out right now: Thankyou20 gives you free shipping plus 20% off; Dadstore gives you 40% off. I just got an 11X14 and 5X7 sent to my house for $6.64. I trust them just as much as I trust the local Walmart, but if it doesn't turn out, I'll let you know. PS - you can get it picked up in-store probably using promo codes, but the prices will most likely go up. And please - don't ever pay for 4X6 prints. You can almost always get those for free. Happy Monday! I ordered this in 11X14 for the kitchen wall

We finally watched it!

Sooo that's cool that there was so much hype over the Hunger Games. I guess I didn't go in thinking the best (because I read the book) but I mean, I did go in thinking there was so much potential. Did anyone else get a headache during the first 10 minutes of the film off tripod? I think my eyes don't appreciate the creative style. Any way, I still love the books but if we can help it, we probably shouldn't pay so much to see a movie in theaters unless it's a movie not based on a book and has serious action best handled on the size of a football field screen. I still appreciated our little date night and actually felt like we could get some popcorn courtesy of the Westers who provided the much appreciated gift card. Perhaps it was all because I wasn't attached to the main lead, but maybe that's kinda how her character is. I don't know. Eric was surprised by how much they showed in the death of the teens. I guess I am desensitized to the horror ...
