This is for my cousin, Shannon:
It doesn't look like I've changed much . . .
but alas 6.5 weeks to go!
And on that note, those big purchases will be coming soon, next in priority is a breast pump.
Can't get much weirder than that.
So, ladies, is this what I want?
Medela Advanced
I'm not sure why there are such big gaps in some of the Medela choices.
Then there are ones like Ameda Purely Yours AND others . . .
(I really don't like researching them)
I really don't even want to make this purchase or even think about what this means.
But alas, I know it must be done.
[And I know some of you say manual is just fine. I don't believe you. I also know some of you say rent from the hospital until you get nursing down, but I think I'm straying away from you too.]
I also understand I can find a used one and buy the parts, so if I get lucky I'll go that route, but I still need to know which one, from you, mothers, who have gone before me. Thanks!

I hear the Medela is the best. I got a single manual pump before H was born - it was so tiring! I hated it. Too much work.
ReplyDeleteI got the Lansinoh double electric (a few weeks after H was born - wanted to make sure I would really be breastfeeding). I ended up finding it on craigslist because I'm cheap. It was only used once and sterilized after, but I got my own parts.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
Did the Lansinoh work well enough? I guess I hear others (outside of Medula) either have issues with keeping them clean or that they are still too slow or not lasting very long, quality wise.
DeleteIt did work, but I had to turn it up pretty high to get it do something for me. Like I said, Lansinoh was cheaper, so the quality probably isn't as great as Medela.
ReplyDeleteEveryone that I know that has a Medela loves it. I would go with Medela if you are willing to dish out the money for it. :)
It's never easy to dish out the money, haha.
DeleteI was like you, I didnt want to spend a ton of money, my sister in law gave me her old pump (medela) and it has worked well. I bought new tubes, for sanitation purposes and boiled all the other parts that were seperated from the pump. She said ahe only used the pump a couple of times. But that is what I did. The reason I say rent from the hospital is because, although medela is a good pump it doesnt get everything out like a child does. So the more you used the "non hospital grade pumps" the lower your milk supply is. Maddie had nursing issues, GERDs (infant reflux) which is quite common. She would try to eat, but just ended up screaming. So in despiration I gave her formula, since she had jaundice (requires lots of liquids passing through). Then my milk supply deteriorated even though I was pumping. It was awful! Now some have great experiences, and never have issues and dont even need a pump. I, on the other hand, ended up half breast feeding and half using formula (the worst)! Dealing withwith bottles, nursing bras, nursing pads, etc! You never know what you are going to get... I hope you have such a possitive experience you dont even need a pump:)! But I enjoyed my medela!
ReplyDeleteI'm not the luckiest person ever, haha, we'll see I guess! Thanks for the thoughts. A lot to take in...
DeleteI pumped exclusively for 10 months on my Pump In Style. Medela is the way to go (Medela, that is, not Medula). Lol. We got along great. Kind of a love/hate relationship though; I would never wish exclusive pumping on anybody.
ReplyDeleteDon't correct my spelling! haha - yeah I hate love/hate relationships.
