I have a weakness

And apparently it's baby stuff. It's worse because I'm so practical and don't want anything I wouldn't 100% love & use, but how do you know when you don't have the baby yet? Well, some things are always great and I just read reviews BUT I know for most things I just plan on waiting. I'm not great at waiting though, so I indulge myself from time to time (only when they are on sale).

  1. My friend Erin introduced me to your blog and I think you are adorable! I am pregnant too and often miserable, this is my second baby though so I do know it is worth all the discomfort! Here is my advice on a few things baby related. A baby swing was the biggest life saver (invest in a new one, we borrowed one and it broke second day, I would hand rock her sometimes because it was the only thing that soothed her). Your local library will have book sales, I got so many board books, big kid books for .50 cents to $1.00 all in great condition! Check it out :) If you plan on breastfeeding, a pump is really helpful, though you might want to rent the equipment for a month of two from the hospital to see if it works for you. I only used it in the beginning, I found it easier to just not pump! I spent $70.00 dollars on a baby wearing sling and it was a waste of money, my daughter HATED being in it, natural parenting groups in your area will often have a meeting where you can try different swings with your baby, then you won't waste money. Khols, JcPenny's, Target, and Ross often have great discounts on baby clothing up to 2 years old, if you shop a year ahead (after the seasons are ending, for example: July and August are good months)you will save a ton of money. Most of the clothing I bought, cost me $2.00 per clothing item (dresses $12.00-$15). And it gives me joy to look forward to seeing her wear it. Invest in a great highchair and car seats, it is worth the money! The Britax Advocate 70 CS is Awesome for when they get older and you can use it when they are a baby, but I recommend getting a Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat, so you can take the baby in and out easily, because they will fall asleep in it. A GREAT website for ordering bigger ticket items is AlbeeBaby.com, it was the cheapest website than anywhere else and free shipping! I also suggest not getting a playyard until you see if your baby likes one, again we bought it and wasted money, she never wanted to be in it! Good luck! Congrats!

    1. Okay I love you!!! Haha. Luckily we do have a swing my mother gave us! I check the children's books at any thrift store I go to and you can get lucky with a few, but library books sales are a wonderful thing to keep in mind! I'm still debating about the pump but figure I can keep putting it off until it gets closer. I saw the mother's list of car seats and the Key Fit was #1 for easy access. I needed a different stroller than the Chicco (one that folds in half so it can fit in my tiny car) but I think I've decided I don't need a car seat that fits into the stroller. Also good advice on the baby carrier. Unfortunately, we got the play yard but it has a really nice bassinet & the changing station which will hopefully give us enough use to make it worth while, but that's the only thing I kinda regret. I know you don't need all the toys and gadgets in the beginning so I'm trying to control myself. They just eat & sleep, haha. I've discovered that the Burlington Coat Factory Baby Depot can have some sweet gems too. Nice meeting you Emily! Congrats & I hope you feel less miserable soon... when are you due?

  2. Thank you! I am glad I finally got brave and wrote a comment! Today was my first day feeling better :) I am due end of June! I am so excited, we find out in 20 days what we are having. Okay so stroller wise, I got an awesome baby stroller that was compact and fit the key-fit car seat, It is basically a frame you put the carseat into it, I am at my Mom's right now, but when I go home I am going to get the name for you. I think we paid around $60 for it and we LOVED using it. You made a great decision to not get the stroller with the carseat because it is too bulky and difficult to maneuver. Once they are old enough to not be in carseat, they can go right into an umbrella stroller, that is worth getting a good one (we bought a cheap $45 dollar one from Wal-Mart and regretted it because it did not have a good sun canopy, which turns out is important). Also, we have my daughter walk most of the time, because it wears her out for her naptime or bedtime and she is so much happier. So I just bring a backpack with me to places like the zoo :) We use the stroller when we go somewhere touristy. Your baby might love the playyard, so don't worry to much and we did use it for those few functions! I know this might sound dumb, but I kind of regret getting a crib. Because, she ended up sleeping in our bed, it made breastfeeding SO much easier and I got a TON of sleep that first year keeping her closer to me. Though for this next baby, we put the crib in our room, next to the bed, so I am hoping it will work out this time. It is best not to tell other parents somethings, because people get so opinionated when it comes to parenting. Trusting your instincts when it comes to your child is far better than listening to others when it comes to actual parenting. You will know what is best. Whenever I have questioned why I have done something, I recall when I made that decision and I always know it was the right one for us. I highly recommend some things when it comes to labor and delivery, I ended up having a surprise C-section at the end and some things made it so much better thanks to my friend who helped me when I was in the hospital. My blog is starringemily.blogspot.com, I am not an awesome blogger like you, but I did use too be. I am happy to answer any questions you have, nothing will embarrass me, my email address is emdaisy@gmail.com if you need anything. I highly recommend if you plan on staying home once the baby comes that you start making some connections with other stay at home Moms, it will make it so much easier on you to make the transition. I had no idea how difficult it was to adjust after working for 5 years and earning my degrees. Though I am SO happy I am home with my daughter, nothing compares and being a Mother is awesome! I have learned so much and made my own mistakes in purchasing things! Especially with potty training stuff! LOL Awesome parenting books that have helped us a lot are Parenting with Love and Logic and Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne, they are both worth reading.

    1. OH don't make me seem that cool! Glad we can be blog friends! I totally hear ya on the trust your instincts comment. Although I like hearing everyones opinions, I know I just want to do what's best for us and I don't need judgments! So I'll try not to judge others =) I guess we're waiting on the crib along with the stroller. Just don't "need" it yet. I know I'll have a ton more questions as April gets close; I don't think i know what's going to hit me with the transition, so thanks for your openness! I always prefer it that way =)

And so it begins, again

At what point do you ... 1. Keep holding on waiting for inspiration to come 2. Try something different 3. Let go & walk away I'd say most of us are usually somewhere in between #1 & #2, but there are occasional moments where I find myself locked into another Jane Austin film with some oreos & milk ignoring reality all together.  Today, I'm trying to rise above some level of complacency & clear my mind at your expense. Mr Smith & I had a good run of it, but since blogs became obsolete in 2017 while Instragram chained us all to algorithms, I had no audience nor desire to write in this world. But times change, after it murders our souls, and alas we are famished for an authentic keyboard with less distractions again. So, let's catch up. They say it comes in threes... Since our job change in 2017, we experienced three more moves, three additional job changes (that don't necessarily align with the moves), and three additional children.  2018-2022 were ver...

Breaking Silence for Religion

I've never been good at being concise. I like words too much. I think outloud. And I haven't had time to blog all these conversations & posts & mental thoughts and it's eating at me to write it all down, to get it out there. These are some words that no one understands anymore: love, tolerance, faith, forgiveness, covenants, judgment, respect, moderation, self-worth, humility, equality...at least if they say they do, I wouldn't believe them. In truth, I think we should be forever understanding what these words mean. Yet I hear people affirming over & over again in their actions & with their voice that they want to be right and they want you to know it & accept the choices they're making. So much for democracy & freedom. They might say "to each his own" but I'm not idealistic anymore, people don't really believe that.  I reference "the world" a lot. Let's clarify what I mean. We can start with Holly...

We're patiently waiting

Picture Mr Smith putting together the pack-n-play. He was so cute. Mostly when he had to read the directions. Do we have a child? Don't ask such silly questions. Hopefully it won't collect too much dust in 5.5 months. We're ready now . . . (but not really) It has a changing thing and a removable bassinet that vibrates.  I'm okay with not needing a changing table.  It will probably mean we won't get a crib for awhile too.  Next we need to hear from our baby/exercise friends a good car seat & jogging stroller (maybe ones that work together)... Any favorites? Then a blanket . . . Then a breast pump . . . Then a diaper bag. . .  Then lots of diapers, toys & cute clothes.  And even a mobile.  Then they get older and there's even more things. Mr Smith is just so thrilled. I'd love to hear about any products that you recommend/absolutely love having. Here is one thing you can do to annoy Mr Smith: go ...
