Food Storage

So we have been thinking a little about how pathetic our food storage situation currently is, and we have been trying to figure out what we need to start collecting on the side of our monthly trips to the grocery store. I came across this wonderful 1 Year Supply Guide that was super informative and basically takes all the guess-work out of food storage. There are a lot of other resources, but I have found this to be exactly what I needed and wanted to share just in case anyone else was interested! The Deals to Meals site also provided a pdf for a 72 hour kit as well. I'm one of those people super intimidated by a 1 year supply, and granted it's just not practical in a 2 bedroom apartment, but we definitely can have 3-6 months worth of storage. fresh fruit isn't always available The general site:  http://www.dealstomeals.com/contents/view/food-storage-101

The Highlight of My Life

Happy Birthday, Lover I freakin love this man with my whole heart. I'm so grateful for my best friend who asked me to be his wife one year and a day ago. Somehow the biggest decision in my life was so easy to make.  I'm excited to grow in years and learn more things about you - to increase the loves and laughs .  You are my everything . Even though you don't want to hear it, you are awesome . I know we're not perfect, but I know we'll work through anything together.  I am yours, forever. And even though birthdays aren't that big of a deal for us, I still want you to know that I'm grateful for you, the man you are and the man you will become. Cheers to getting older and finding love again and again with the one person who cherished your heart the first time.

Southern Living

a trip to the... Farmers Market! one of my first Winston-Salem friends, Addi. The other Smiths are canning green beans! One day we'll be that cool... cucumbers, zucchini, squash... I love it all My absolute favorite! I actually didn't purchase anything and went along for a look-see. At least they had free samples! I also fell in love with roasted red pepper goat cheese on crackers. Mr Smith doesn't seem to be onboard with my desire to eventually own a goat, but we'll give him some time to think about it. The goat cheese is too expensive not to have a goat... He made sure to clarify that when he says he loves cheese, he loves medium or sharp cheddar. They say you can't change your spouses. I married him! Temple Trip! Mr Smith went to help the youth with baptisms, so I went along to see if I could assist or do temple work for others. Turns out it's not like DC and timing is important at this temple, but nonetheless, I enjoyed being...

Losing Time

So that's it. It has come to an ultimate low. I watched an episode of 90210.  Well folks, it turns out I have 3 weeks left of vacation before I head back to the grind.* Hopefully I can actually enjoy these 3 weeks since the job hunt is over, but it's off to a horrible start if 90210 is on the radar. I just hope there aren't actual seasons of that show. Please, for my faith in mankind, don't tell me there are more. You'd think as you get older that petty love triangles, teenage drama, and pop songs would wear. It's worn, but I still waller in it sometimes. Good word. I don't think I'll relate to my teenage children. I'll just call it now, but I'll want to know everything. I've been thinking a lot about my college days recently. Now that I see on Facebook how everyone is going their own way. It's so interesting to see kids popping up and people moving all over the place. I don't know how the "wise in years" do it. I'd...

My Cooking Mind

I have two recipes that I really liked. They were easy for me. I'll post Pesto Pasta first because I have a picture: This may have involved two pots. I made this awhile back.  - almost a full box of bow tie pasta - I believe those were several tomatoes chopped up - I substituted pine nuts with honey roasted sunflower seeds (I'm sure the first was healthier but they cost 3xs as much for half the serving) - basil pesto from the jar (one day I'll make my own) - a full container of mushrooms - some chicken  I know there was something more than just basil pesto... I think I added like a quarter of cream cheese with a small amount of whatever red sauce I had in the fridge and knowing us, some mozzarella cheese was added It would be even better if you added spinach! --------------------------- NEXT was something I made up last night. And decided not to take a picture mostly due to laziness (and it wasn't that pretty) ...

iMovie Part II - My Story

If you can't handle the music (aka Mr Smith), I'm sorry. It is the clean version. (that I have Miss Lyman to thank for) If you can't handle ugly pictures, I'm sorry I wanted this to be an honest version of our story. I wouldn't let Mr Smith see what I was doing last night. {This is what happens when you're away at basketball practice} He would laugh and tell me I'm ridiculous. And I am well aware that I am. I love this video. I need this bigger. Maybe I'll post it on youtube ? If you choose youtube, I'm sorry for the creepy videos that also pop up under "my story"

iMovie

You know what's funny, I'm obsessed with this free song I downloaded on iTunes, but I don't even know what it's talking about.  Maybe it's just because it's one of 4 songs on my iTunes. We never did upload all our music onto the new computer. I think I just like the general flow of the notes and the feeling it puts me in. A mix of the snowy silence, getting lost in a crowd, and my lover touching my hand for the first time. It's called the A team .  It got me through editing the movie below. But now that I've actually listened to the song, I understand what the words are. And it's not positive and happy at all. I swear it didn't sound depressing, but maybe I'm twisted and think depressing things sound happy. The video below is much happier, I promise. My attempt at iMovie. One more project for me: take video and make movies The beginning didn't work out so well. I need lots of practice, but there is potential for coolnes...
